#Boycott Cadbury Trends

Cadbury, the second largest confectionery company in the world, has been trolled by Social Media users because of their recent Diwali advertisement.

 

An extremely poor man selling lamps is depicted in the Cadbury advertisement. Some claimed that the person’s name in the advertisement, Damodar, was a play on the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's father, Damodardas Modi. They claimed the advertisement was a jab at the PM's upbringing.

 

 

Soon after the advertisement, users started using #Boycott Cadbury. A Twitter user named Prachi Sadhvi posted, "Have you carefully watched the Cadbury chocolate TV commercials? Damodar is a poor lamp vendor without a store. This is done to portray someone in a negative light who shares the name of PM Narendra Modi's father. Chaiwale ka baap diyawala. Embarrassing for Cadbury Company.”

The nudging doesn’t end here. BJP leader Narendra Kumar Chawla concluded that "Cadbury Company needs to be boycotted because it insulted PM Modi's father.” While the majority asked for strict action against the company. Others argued that Cadbury products contained beef; the company had already refuted this claim in 2021 after similar allegations surfaced.

 

 

Some users also came forward in support of Cadbury. One Twitter user proclaimed that as per this, every person named Damodar is PM Modi’s father. Another Twitter user said, "Carefully noticed, and it's the best advertisement." "This is well observed," said another Twitter user. We are waiting for a logical answer from @DairyMilkIn.

Subsequently, there was an uproar regarding Cadbury's use of beef in their products in 2021 as well. The statement "Please note, if any of our products contain gelatin in the ingredients, the gelatine we use is halal certified and derived from beef" was included in a screenshot of the Cadbury website shared at the time by some Twitter users. As a result, many internet users decided to stop buying Cadbury products. History has repeated itself and Cadbury is again in the limelight.

 

 

Soon after the screenshot, the Cadbury Dairy Milk Twitter Account provided clarification. The chocolate-making company wrote, "Hello, the screenshot shared in the Tweet is unrelated to Mondelez products made in India.” In India, every single product that is produced and distributed is vegetarian. The green dot on the package serves as a reminder.

Cadbury further added, "As you can
probably guess, negative posts like these erode consumer trust in our
well-known and cherished brands. We kindly ask our customers to confirm any
information about our products before spreading it further.

 

 

Cadbury has been the iconic chocolate brand
for ages. No other chocolate company has been successful compared to Cadbury.
Cadbury has always cleared all the allegations imposed on them. But this time the blunder it made seems to be falling heavily on it.
