A speeding Maruti Brezza rear-ended a Datsun Go on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, killing 21-year-old Delhi student Nitika Kumari and injuring eight others. Nitika, unbelted and suffering motion sickness, sustained fatal head injuries. Police have registered a case against the Brezza driver, who will be arrested after hospital discharge.

A tragic accident on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway claimed the life of 21-year-old Nitika Kumari, a student from Shakurpur, Delhi, and left eight others injured. The collision occurred around 4 pm on Wednesday near Ferozepur Jhirka, Nuh, when a speeding Maruti Brezza rear-ended their Datsun Go.
Nitika was traveling with her sister Himani, brother Vishesh, and uncle Sanjay Mandawat after dropping off an elderly relative in Alwar, Rajasthan. According to police, Mandawat slowed the vehicle as Nitika was feeling nauseous due to motion sickness. At that moment, the Brezza, clocking speeds of 130-140 km/h, slammed into their car.
The Brezza, carrying five people from Tri Nagar, Delhi, had been attempting to catch up with another car from their group after visiting Mehendipur Balaji temple. The impact caused both vehicles to spin out of control, with the Datsun hitting a crash barrier and the Brezza flipping multiple times.
Critically, Nitika had unfastened her seatbelt to freshen up with water and was reportedly peeking out the window to vomit when the crash occurred, resulting in a fatal head injury. A passing motorist helped rush the injured to Mandi Khera hospital, where Nitika was declared dead.
Police have registered a first information report against the Brezza driver under sections 106 (causing death by negligence) and 281 (rash driving) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The driver, currently hospitalized, will be arrested upon discharge.

Mandawat, a lawyer at Rohini court, expressed grief over the lack of adequate mortuary facilities to preserve Nitika’s body, forcing the family to use ice blocks before the autopsy. Authorities are continuing the investigation, emphasizing the dangers of speeding and the importance of seatbelt use, even for rear-seat passengers.
