Amid rising tensions with Pakistan, India’s Health Ministry has set up a 24x7 control room to coordinate emergency medical responses. Directed by Health Minister JP Nadda, the move includes cancelling staff leaves, mobilising resources, and enhancing preparedness at hospitals, especially in border areas, following Operation Sindoor and the Pahalgam attack.

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has established a 24x7 control and command room to manage medical emergencies in light of the ongoing military conflict between India and Pakistan. The move was ordered by Union Health Minister JP Nadda, who chaired a high-level meeting with the Union Health Secretary and senior officials on Friday.
The decision comes amid heightened cross-border tensions following India's Operation Sindoor, a targeted military action against terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, in retaliation for the deadly Pahalgam terror attack. In anticipation of potential casualties or mass medical emergencies, the Centre has taken steps to streamline coordination between central and state authorities.
Officials briefed the minister on the readiness of ambulances, availability of medical supplies, hospital bed capacity, and intensive care provisions across the country. All leaves of medical staff at institutions such as AIIMS, New Delhi, have been cancelled, and hospitals have been instructed to ensure uninterrupted access to trauma care kits, oxygen supplies, and essential drugs.
The command room will serve as a central hub for real-time communication, particularly between supervising authorities and executing agencies at the state level. Additional emergency response training in CPR, first aid, and basic life support is also being rolled out with help from AIIMS, the Indian Red Cross Society, and other national institutions.

Border states have been placed on high alert, and medical institutions across India have been instructed to maintain round-the-clock preparedness for any escalation.
