An earthquake of magnitude 4.5 struck the Andaman Sea early Sunday morning, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS). The seismic event occurred at 7:03 a.m. IST at a depth of 10 kilometers, with coordinates placing the epicenter at latitude 6.60°N and longitude 95.05°E.

The NCS confirmed the tremor via a post on social media platform X, stating, “EQ of M: 4.5, On: 06/07/2025 07:03:34 IST, Lat: 6.60 N, Long: 95.05 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Andaman Sea.”

No immediate reports of damage or casualties have emerged. Authorities are monitoring the situation and gathering additional data to assess any potential impact in nearby coastal regions.

Earthquakes are not uncommon in the Andaman and Nicobar region, which lies in a seismically active zone due to the convergence of the Indian and Burmese tectonic plates. The region frequently experiences moderate-intensity quakes.

Officials have urged residents in the nearby island areas to remain alert but not panic, as the tremor was relatively minor and no tsunami warning has been issued.
