A New Bridge Opened at The Mumbai-Surat Corridor:-
The rising development in the road and transport sector within the country saw a new objective Being fulfilled yesterday. The reports are coming from Mumbai, the city of dreams that lately turned into agony for many owing to the ever-increasing traffic congestion.
Nitin Gadkari, Minister for Road Transport and Highways, inaugurated a new 918-meter-long Versova bridge on Monday.
The Versova bridge is constructed on the Versova Bay at Ghodbunder, connecting Mumbai to Surat. The construction for the Versova bridge started in 2018, soon after the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) found the old bridge weak and not compatible for utilization anymore.
Notably, only one of the total 4 lanes has been opened to the public yesterday. The rest of the bridge at the Mumbai-Surat corridor will be opened shortly, as per reports.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari tweeted on Monday regarding the 918-meter-long balanced cantilever bridge, “Starting from the 27th of March, 2023, we will be opening a recently constructed 918-meter-long balanced cantilever bridge on Varsova creek, consisting of four lanes, which will provide significant traffic relief to the Mumbai-Surat corridor, particularly across the Varsova creek."
To reach Gujarat or Surat from Mumbai and Thane, people have to cross the Versova Bay at Ghodbunder. The construction of the new Versova bridge could prove to be a welcome relief for the commuters in the Mumbai-Surat corridor.
The newly constructed bridge will also aid in controlling the traffic congestion in the city, as quoted by the officials. The motorists, in general, will get relief from the traffic jams they had to Face on the old bridge.
