Aam Aadmi Party sources revealed that the AAP has pressurised the Congress party

On Thursday (22nd June 2023), Aam Aadmi Party sources revealed that the AAP has pressurised the Congress party to support its campaign against a contentious Delhi ordinance introduced by the central government by skipping the upcoming opposition meeting.

AAP sources have expressed, "The Congress must support us on the issue of the Delhi ordinance. We will boycott the opposition meeting if it doesn't and stay away from future opposition meetings." The ordinance in controversy, introduced by the BJP-led central government last month, seeks to restructure the administrative services as well as gain control over the bureaucracy in Delhi.

AAP has given an ultimatum to Congress to not attend meeting over a contentious ordinance.

On Tuesday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal stated that he was hopeful that the Congress party would clarify its position, indicating whether they will support the Aam Aadmi Party's campaign against it or not, on the Delhi ordinance during the opposition meeting scheduled for Friday.

In his efforts to prevent the ordinance from becoming a law through parliamentary proceedings, he has been actively engaging with leaders of non-BJP parties, by reaching out to them with the aim of rallying their support against the ordinance.

But the Delhi Chief minister received a sarcastic reply in response to the ultimatum by Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit, known for opposing AAP within his own party, who said,  "Kejriwal ji no one will miss you. You were looking for excuses to skip... This meeting is not for people who make deals."

Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar.

The upcoming opposition meeting scheduled for Friday, is to be held in Patna and will be organized by Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar. It is anticipated that the meeting will serve as a platform for the opposition to formulate a joint strategy for the forthcoming elections.

The AAP's decision to boycott the opposition meeting might jeopardize the efforts of India's fragmented opposition in uniting and strategizing for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
