Fight of Tweets to Release Asaram Bapuji:-
A movement named “AB TO RIHA KARO” has been kicked off by a huge number of Twitter users in the 10th year of Asaram Bapuji’s conviction as a result of the Jodhpur rape case. Twitter users have put across several points in their godman’s favor, demanding his immediate release from wrongful conviction. Backdrop Asaram Bapuji was born as “Asumal Sirumalani”  in Sindh and rose to fame very soon as a “godman” in Rajasthan. Many political leaders have reached out to Asaram Bapuji at some point of their careers such as Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Nitin Gadkari, Kamal Nath and L. K. Advani.
The Rape Case in Jodhpur
In August 2013, after the Delhi Police filed a case against Asaram Bapuji for having sexually abused a minor girl at his Jodhpur ashram. It was reported that he had asked her to perform oral sex on the pretext of a religious ceremony for her benefit. The elaborate investigation began and investigators reported that the sexual acts performed by Asaram Bapuji were recorded so that they could be used later to blackmail the victims. The charges leveled against him under the IPC were under sections 342, 376, 506 and 509. He was also charged under the POCSO Act (Section 8) and Juvenile Justice Act (Section 23 ans 26). All the bail pleas of Asaram Bapuji have been rejected since then despite him being represented by two star advocates of the time, namely Ram Jethmalani and Subramaniam Swamy. The Twitter Movement and its Arguments It is not a surprise to see that the wide fan following of Asaram Bapuji has come forward with several movements on Twitter demanding the immediate release of their godman.   1. The FIR filed in Delhi is a fake one.
  2. POCSO sections have been wrongfully used to extend his punishment.
  3. The call details of the victim have been tampered with.
  4. The medical reports do not point out at rape.
  5. The evidence by those who testified in Asaram Bapuji’s favor was not admitted by the Court.
  6. His goodness weighs much more such as his attempts to save the Hindu culture and stop forceful conversions and hence, his conviction has been wrongful.
  7. The Courts have acted in a biased manner and not given a just trial to Asaram Bapuji.
Along with these arguments, many popular hashtags such as #सबूतों_की_अनदेखी_क्यों and #Bapuji have been used in the common movement titled, “Ab To Riha Karo”.
