A US Federal Court has ruled to continue with the sale of abortion drugs for the time being but has imposed stricter regulations regarding their disposal. Coming during the recognition of privacy rights of women undergoing legal abortion, this ruling becomes particularly significant, here is why.

Mifepristone, an abortion drug in combination with Misoprostol, was given a green flag by the Food and Drug Administration of the U.S. The case is now likely to be forwarded to the Supreme Court of the U.S. after the Wednesday (April 12, 2023) judgement of 5th US Circuit Court of Appeals, New Orleans.
The initial ruling by a judge of a
lower court in Texas adjudged the recognition of the drug provided by FDA to be
reversed, in a suit brought by competitors of Mifepristone. The decision has
now been overturned by a three judge bench with 2-1 vote.
Awaiting an appeal, the Texas court
judgement had been paused for a week.
The appellate court has upheld the
validity of FDAs recognition of Mifepristone in 2000, overruling the judgement
of the lower court.
The validity though has been
contended to include tougher regulations as against the relaxation provided by
FDA in 2016. The relaxations included elongated pregnancy period for
administration of drug along with provision to send it on mail without
requiring doctor consultation.
The propaganda seekers relate the
actions of the two judges, Kurt Engelhardt and Andrew Oldham, in the opinion of
stricter regulations to former president Trump's ideologies as they were appointed
during his tenure. Judge Catharina Haynes liberal say in matter opining the put
the lower court's judgement completely on hold for oral arguments is reasoned
with her being appointed by former president George W. Bush.
Mifepristone, a drug has been in use
since two decades and is known to have very mild complications in women even
lower than various routine treatments as per medical groups.
