The problems being faced by Vanuatu have been very well acknowledged by the United Nations in a special resolution. The PMof Vanuatu stated, “Vanuatu sees today's historic resolution as the beginning of a new era in multilateral climate cooperation, one that is more fully focused on upholding the rule of international law and an era that places human rights and intergenerational equity at the forefront of climate decision-making.”

The International Court of Justice Regarding The Issue of Climate Change

This is not the first time that the International Court of Justice would be dealing with a case related to climate change. In a few earlier cases, the International Court of Justice has already dealt with the need to fulfill obligations under conventions like the Paris Agreement, Kyoto Protocol, and Rio Declaration. However, all of the earlier climate change disputes have been made applicable to the disputing parties. The Upcoming Advisory Opinion of the International Court of Justice is expected to set a standard of care regarding climate change for all countries.
