Kathmandu Mayor bans Hindi films over 'Adipurush' dialogue.

Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor, Balendra Shah, has implemented a prohibition on the exhibition of Hindi films within Nepal's capital, pending the removal of a specific dialogue from the movie "Adipurush" directed by Om Raut, which presents a contemporary adaptation of the revered epic Ramayana.

Mayor Shah has issued a three-day ultimatum for the necessary modifications to be implemented. Through a Facebook post, he declared, "As long as the line 'Janaki is a daughter of India' remains in the South Indian film 'Adipurush,' both Nepal and India shall prohibit the screening of any Hindi films in Kathmandu Metropolitan City."

The Censor Board of Nepal has additionally chosen to withhold approval for the movie "Adipurush" due to the reason mentioned earlier. For those unfamiliar, in the trailer of "Adipurush," Sita is referred to as the daughter of India, whereas, as per the Ramayana, Sita was born in Janakpur, Nepal, and later married Lord Ram. Currently, there is anticipation among the public to witness whether the required modifications will be incorporated into the film or not.

The eagerly anticipated film is scheduled to be showcased in Nepal starting from Friday. However, Nepal's Film Censor Board has clarified that it has granted permission for the film's release on the condition that the segment of dialogue referring to Sita as the daughter of India is removed.

Since the unveiling of its teaser last year, Adipurush has been embroiled in contentious discussions. The filmmakers faced significant criticism when the teaser did not meet the anticipated standards, taking everyone by surprise by revealing that the movie was not a live-action adaptation of the Indian epic but rather a live-animation production. The VFX featured in the teaser was heavily disparaged for its below-par quality. The reactions were so intense that the filmmakers were compelled to postpone the release date from January and undertake extensive revisions to enhance the movie's special effects.

After facing a series of controversies and challenges, the Bollywood movie Adipurush starring Prabhas and Kriti Sanon is finally set to release in 2023. Directed by Om Raut, the film made its grand debut on June 16 and is anticipated to have a sensational opening at the box office. Drawing inspiration from the Hindu mythological epic Ramayana, the movie showcases Prabhas as Raghav, Kriti Sanon as Janaki, and Saif Ali Khan as Ravan.

The film carries forward the virtues of Lord Ram, encompassing themes of Dharma, Courage, and Sacrifice, which are eloquently depicted in its captivating poster. Prior to its theatrical release, the movie had its world premiere at the prestigious 2023 Tribeca Film Festival held in New York.
