Adipurush Writer On ‘Tapori’ Dialogues Like “Jalegi Teri Baap Ki”

In response to audience feedback, co-writer Manoj Muntashir has announced that certain lines of dialogue in the recently-released mythological epic film Adipurush will be revised. The decision follows objections from a portion of the audience regarding the use of colloquial language in a film based on the epic Ramayana. This marks the second significant revision in Adipurush, following a delay of several months due to viewer complaints about the subpar visual effects.

In a statement, Muntashir expressed, "One of the primary lessons derived from the epic tale of Lord Ram is to honor and acknowledge every emotion. Regardless of right or wrong, time may change, but feelings endure. In the script of Adipurush, I crafted over 4000 lines of dialogue, yet it is unfortunate that just five lines caused distress to some individuals. Within those numerous lines, there were ample instances where Shri Ram was exalted, Maa Sita's purity was extolled, and recognition was to be given to her, though I am unsure why that was overlooked."

Furthermore, he lamented, "Even my own brothers resorted using vulgar language towards me on social media. These very individuals, for whose esteemed mothers I have recited verses numerous times on television, directed vulgar remarks towards my own mother. I pondered deeply, how did my brother's suddenly become so bitter that they failed to recognize the essence of Shri Ram, who revered every mother as his own? Like sitting at the feet of Shabri was akin to sitting at the feet of Kaushalya. It is plausible that within a three-hour film, I may have penned something that deviated from your expectations for a mere three minutes.

However, I cannot fathom why there was such haste to label me as a betrayer of the Sanatan Dharma."

Have you not listened to the resounding chant of 'Jai Shri Ram'? Were you not touched by the divine melody of 'Shivoham'? Have you not heard the soul-stirring hymn of 'Ram Siya Ram'? These very hymns of devotion to the Sanatan Dharma in Adipurush are also a creation of my pen. I have also penned the heartfelt anthems of 'Teri Mitti' and 'Desh Mere.'

In his concluding remarks, Muntashir emphasized, "I hold no grievances against you; you were, are, and always will be dear to me. If we turn against each other, the essence of Sanatan Dharma will suffer. Adipurush was brought to life with the intention of serving Sanatan, a mission that has garnered immense support from countless viewers, and I believe it will continue to do so in the future. Why am I making this post? Because, to me, your sentiment holds paramount importance.

While I could present countless arguments in defense of my dialogues, it will not alleviate your pain. Therefore, in consultation with the film's producer-director, we have decided to revise certain dialogues that have caused distress, and these revisions will be incorporated into the film this week. May the blessings of Shri Ram be bestowed upon all of you!"

During an interview with Republic, Manoj Muntashir, while defending certain dialogues that faced objections, highlighted India's profound oral heritage. He shared how he had been exposed to various versions of the Ramayana in his upbringing, where colloquial expressions were employed by his elders. However, in a subsequent interview with Aaj Tak, he clarified that Adipurush should not be viewed as a direct adaptation of the Ramayana but rather as an inspired creation.
