In the wake of
the recent passing of the Women's Reservation Bill, the focus now shifts to the
Advocates Amendment Bill, 2023, as Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal is set to
introduce it in the Lok Sabha today. The bill, previously approved in the Rajya
Sabha, aims to amend the Advocates Act, 1961, by repealing obsolete provisions
from the Legal Practitioners Act, 1879.
One significant
aspect of the bill is its stance on 'Touting,' wherein individuals attempt to
secure legal representation in exchange for payments. The proposed amendment
seeks to make 'Touting' a punishable offense and empowers judges to publish a
list of individuals engaged in such activities. Those listed as touts could be
excluded from court premises.
The legislative
agenda for the day also includes discussions on the success of the
Chandrayaan-3 mission and the nation's achievements in the space sector.
Additionally, the
session covers various reports from standing committees, such as the Committee
on Estimates, the Standing Committee on Home Affairs, and reports related to
Education, Women, Children, Youth, and Sports.
The legislative
business of the Lok Sabha for Thursday also encompasses reports from the
standing committees on Transport, Tourism, Culture, and Health and Family
Welfare.
This session
witnessed the historic passage of the 'Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam,' marking
the first bill approved by the Lok Sabha since it relocated to the new
Parliament building. Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed this legislation as a
significant step forward for women's empowerment, enhancing their participation
in the political process.
