Air India has unveiled its pioneering integrated
warehouse in Delhi, a significant move to enhance operational efficiency. This
expansive facility, situated near Terminal 3 within the Cargo complex of Indira
Gandhi International Airport's Air Cargo Logistics division, is set to play a
pivotal role in boosting the airline's operational capabilities. It will be
responsible for storing over 10 lakh essential engineering spares required for
aircraft maintenance and ground support equipment repairs.
Campbell Wilson, the CEO and MD of Air India, expressed
his enthusiasm for this development, stating, "This world-class facility
will not only bolster Air India's operational efficiency but also fortify
India's aviation ecosystem." He emphasized that the warehouse's proximity
to crucial aircraft spares would lead to improved flight punctuality.
Spanning approximately 54,000 sq. ft., this integrated warehouse is a game-changer for Air India. It promises to expedite the turnaround time of Air India's flights departing from Delhi, solidifying its status as the country's first-of-its-kind facility in the airline industry.
Air India's warehouse will serve as the cornerstone of
the airline's engineering function, offering a comprehensive solution for the
storage of aircraft spares, tools, and ground support equipment. This includes
a wide range of items, from basic hardware to advanced avionics, hydraulics,
structural components, pneumatics, and mechanical parts.
The warehouse is strategically positioned to fulfill the
engineering resource needs of Air India, Air India Express, and AIX Connect
fleets from a centralized location. It consolidates 16 smaller locations across
Delhi and Mumbai into a state-of-the-art facility, functioning as a nationwide
hub for airline operations. This consolidation aims to streamline airline
functions and optimize inventory control, ultimately enhancing overall
efficiency.
