The latest occurrence involved the discovery of an alleged suicide letter in the dormitory of a 20-year-old scholar, indicating that he committed suicide as a result of a romantic problem. His colleagues noticed that his room had been locked for some time and informed the responsible individual for the facility. Thereafter, information was relayed to the police. The police appeared and forcefully entered the door, discovering that the student had passed away. The IIT-Madras offered their sympathies to the grieving and highlighted their efforts to identify and support students who may be struggling emotionally or mentally.

Similar incidents have been recorded at other IITs, including the recent suicide of an 18-year-old student from the Dalit community at IIT-Bombay on February 12th.
