On Saturday, Union Minister Anurag Thakur criticized opposition leaders for forming a united front against the government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party by commenting that the people will make them sit at home in 2024.
Thakur took a dig at the opposition, remarking, “The public will make them sit at home in 2024 and vote to bring the Modi government to power again. They know their faces well”. While directing an attack toward the Congress party, he raised doubts about whether they can effectively question the alleged wrongdoings of various regional parties.
“Can Rahul Gandhi question Mamata Banerjee on the attack on democracy in Bengal, can he question Stalin in Tamil Nadu…Nitish Kumar on the breakdown of the multi-crore bridge in the state or corruption on ambulances. It cannot. This is because Congress itself is guilty of corruption,” Thakur added.
Thakur sarcastically stated that the opposition meeting has been organized like a stage performance, with the gathering of opposition leaders who he referred to as a troupe, and all corrupt leaders are a part of it. During the day, Anurag Thakur remarked on the conflict between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress, stating that they speak of unity but it seems like their unity is limited only to joint press conferences.
The Union Minister doubted the role of the Congress party in various states by mentioning scenarios that if leaders like Mamata Banerjee, Lalu Prasad Yadav, Nitish Kumar, Akhilesh Yadav, and Stalin ask the Congress to stay out of their states, in that case, the Congress is there only to secure seats within the Gathbandhan rather having any substantial position in these states.
The Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs questioned regarding a poster that featured Nitish Kumar but was later taken down, asking whether they were trying to portray Nitish Kumar. He also pointed out that the tweet promoting the poster was subsequently deleted.
The opposition's meeting attended by over 15 opposition parties was held at Nitish Kumar's official residence in Patna on June 23.
