A security guard was shot and seriously injured outside rapper Drake's Toronto mansion amid his feud with Kendrick Lamar, raising speculation the shooting could be related to their heated rap rivalry.

Shots were fired at the Toronto house of famous rapper Drake during the night and the police have confirmed it. The shooting took place around 02:00 am ET on Tuesday, at the corner of a small street near the mansion of Drake in the prestigious Bridle Path neighborhood.

Suspects from a car shot at guards and then ran away according to Toronto Police Inspector Paul Krawczyk. The guard sustained gunshot injuries and is in critical condition with one of the bullets hitting his chest.  He is being treated at the hospital.

It is still not clear whether Drake was in the house at that time or the shooter was aimed at him. However, it has to be noted that the fight happened amid the rap feud between Drake and another hip-hop star Kendrick Lamar.

The two music stars have had a lot of dissing going back and forth, with the latest being even more personal and direct with the lyrics. On his new single "Not Like Us" Kendrick Lamar seems to be saying that Drake may have been involved in inappropriate relationships and that he might be housing sex offenders or something to that effect, and Drake's Toronto home is its cover art.

Drake doesn't take the accusations at all lightly and responds with "The Heart Part 6" track, in which he says he is disgusted at the claims made by Lamar.

While police said it is too early to speculate on the motive, the timing has added fuel to the conjecture that the shooting could be the outcome of the rivalry between the two hip-hop giants. The police are now watching the video footage, but have not yet provided any information as the quality is not sufficient for them.

Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow condemned the shooting, saying that the city is unacceptable for any kind of violence. The cops have blockaded the proximity of Drake's house as they go on with the investigation.
