Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma alleged Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi visited Pakistan on ISI’s invitation, accusing him of secret dealings. Sarma vowed to present proof by September 10 and also questioned the citizenship and foreign links of Gogoi’s family. Gogoi dismissed the claims as politically driven.

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has accused Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi of secretly visiting Pakistan on an invitation from the country's intelligence agency, the ISI. Sarma claimed the trip was not for tourism or academic purposes, but for undisclosed activities allegedly coordinated by Pakistan’s home department. The Chief Minister described the invitation as “dangerous” and insisted Gogoi's actions raised serious national security concerns.

The BJP leader stated that the Assam government possessed documents proving Gogoi’s visit and his association with the Pakistani establishment. According to Sarma, the invitation came directly from Pakistan’s interior ministry—unlike usual diplomatic or academic exchanges—suggesting an ulterior motive behind the trip. He promised to present verified documentary evidence by September 10 and urged people not to question the matter further until then.

Sarma also leveled additional allegations against Gogoi’s family, claiming that his wife continues to receive a salary from a Pakistan-based NGO while living in India. He questioned her frequent visits to Pakistan—alleging she had traveled there 19 times—and raised doubts about the citizenship of Gogoi’s wife and children. The Chief Minister demanded answers on whether their citizenship had changed, adding that if Gogoi failed to clarify, the government would pursue legal steps.

These allegations come amid heightened political rivalry ahead of national elections, intensifying the war of words between the BJP and Congress. Gogoi has previously dismissed Sarma’s claims as baseless and politically motivated, accusing the BJP’s IT cell of targeting his family to distract from governance issues.

As the controversy unfolds, the political stakes continue to rise, with potential legal and diplomatic ramifications if the evidence Sarma promises is indeed revealed.
