An unfortunate incident occurred near Kaziranga National Park, where a seven-year-old female baby elephant died due to electrocution after coming in contact with an illegal electric fence. The incident took place at Borjuri Basti village on Saturday night, and the body of the baby elephant was discovered on Sunday morning.

The Kaziranga director, Jatindra Sarma, revealed that some villagers had built fences with live electric connections as a measure to protect themselves from elephants and other wild animals. However, this practice is illegal and led to the tragic death of the young elephant. Authorities are now investigating whether similar illegal fencings exist in other areas.

Upon recovering the carcass of the baby elephant, forest officials conducted an investigation, leading to the arrest of a local resident named Chunku Munda (45). He was found to have installed electrical fencing on his property to keep wild elephants away, and the calf inadvertently touched the live wires, resulting in its electrocution. A large number of electric wires were seized from Munda's possession, indicating his involvement in helping others create such illegal fences with electricity connections.

The flood situation in the region has caused animals to move out of Kaziranga National Park, leading them to venture near highways and villages. In response, advisories have been issued for vehicles to control speed limits when driving in the vicinity of the National Park. CCTV cameras are installed in the area to monitor and enforce the rules. Forest officials have emphasized that strict actions will be taken against anyone found breaking the law.
