Bangladesh’s Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus’s press secretary assured Hindus are safe amid unrest following Hindu priest Chinmoy Krishna Das’s arrest. Despite calls to ban ISKCON, the government affirmed it will not impose restrictions. Authorities emphasized a fair trial and dismissed India’s criticism as unwarranted interference in an internal matter.
Shafikul Islam, press secretary to Bangladesh’s Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus, reassured that Hindus remain “safe” in Bangladesh amid heightened tensions following the arrest of Hindu priest Chinmoy Krishna Das. He dismissed calls to ban the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), stating, “ISKCON will not be banned in Bangladesh.”
The arrest of Das on sedition charges has sparked protests and demands from groups like Hefazat-e-Islam to outlaw ISKCON. However, the Bangladesh High Court recently rejected a petition seeking such a ban. Islam emphasized the government’s commitment to a fair trial for Das and urged against disinformation, inviting international media to report on-ground realities.
