Mumbai, April 28, 2024 - The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has fined Mumbai Indians wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan 10 percent of his match fee for breaching the Indian Premier League's Code of Conduct during yesterday's match against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
The 24-year-old Kishan admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction from the match referee. Article 2.2 pertains to actions outside the course of normal cricket such as abuse of equipment, damage to advertising boards or fixtures, and other similar offences.
However, the BCCI did not specify exactly what Kishan did to warrant the punishment, or whether the incident occurred during the match action, the innings break, or before or after the contest.
On the field, Delhi Capitals defeated Mumbai Indians by 10 runs in a high-scoring thriller. Electing to bat first, DC posted an imposing 257/4 riding on blistering knocks from Jake Fraser-McGurk (84 off 27 balls) and Tristan Stubbs (48* off 25).
In reply, MI got off to a fast start scoring 62/3 in the powerplay with Kishan being one of the three batsmen dismissed. Hardik Pandya (46 off 24) tried to rally the chase before Tilak Varma (51 off 33) and Tim David (34 off 16) added 70 runs for the 6th wicket. But it proved too little too late as MI finished on 247/9.
The defeat leaves Mumbai Indians second from bottom on the IPL points table with just 6 points from 9 matches. The five-time champions will need a string of wins to make the playoffs.
