Hunter Biden was convicted of lying on a gun purchase form about his drug use in 2018. His father, President Joe Biden, said he respects the verdict as his son faces possible jail time.
Hunter Biden, the 54-year old son of the U. S president Joe Biden was on Tuesday convicted of the charges that accused him of falsely declaring his history of using drugs on a form that he filled while procuring a firearm in 2018. In June 1995, a jury in Delaware found Biden guilty of all the three felony charges after a trial that focused on Biden’s substance dependency issues.
The conviction also set a new record as it is the first time a child of a president is being criminally charged. It emerges at a time when Joe Biden is seeking re-election in 2024 while his possible opponent for the Democratic presidential nomination Donald Trump was recently convicted of a crime in New York.
President Biden responded saying that he would respect the verdict and mentioned that he is a father and he knows how much his wife Jill and he love their son Hunter, and they are proud of him today and added that he would accept whatever outcome as Hunter Biden considers an appeal.
There was very sensitive information that was presented to the juror, including, for instance, excessive consumption of alcohol and drugs of Hunter Biden, and showing of text messages and pictures of his substance abuse. Both his ex-wife and one of his former girlfriends stated how he had changed after using crack cocaine and how he affected those closest to him.
The verdict was not well received by Republicans, who have scrutinized Hunter Biden’s business transactions. However, some jurors stated that political issues had no influence on the decision to convict the defendants.

Hunter Biden is now facing sentencing in 120 days and possible imprisonment; however, there is no way he is getting a long sentence since it is his first offense, and he is not a violent criminal. He is also to stand trial for tax evasion in September, in another case.
