In a tragic incident in Bihar's
Muzaffarpur district, two bodies have been recovered during the ongoing search
operation for individuals who went missing after a boat capsized in the Bagmati
River.
District Magistrate Pranav Kumar
confirmed the grim discovery, revealing that the bodies of a 40-year-old man
and a four-year-old child have been retrieved from the river.
The ill-fated incident occurred when a boat carrying around
30 passengers, mostly school-going children and women, capsized near Madhur
Patti ghat of the Bagmati
River.
The boat was en route to
Bhattgama ghat on the opposite side when tragedy struck.
Thankfully, immediate rescue
efforts led to the safe retrieval of twenty children, but eleven individuals
remained unaccounted for. Both the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and
State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have joined forces in the search operation
for the missing persons.
To aid in the efforts, district
officials are conducting door-to-door checks in neighbourhoods near the ghat to
identify any missing children. Additionally, a team of doctors is stationed
near the ghat, where a facility for post-mortem examinations has been
established.
The entire operation is under the
careful supervision of senior officials from the district administration, who
are working tirelessly to locate the missing individuals and provide support to
the affected families.
This heartbreaking incident serves as a stark reminder of
the dangers faced by communities relying on water transport and the need for
stringent safety measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
