A shocking incident took place at a hospital in Delhi on Tuesday, where a neurosurgeon became the victim of an attack by a patient named Rajkumar. The unfortunate event occurred at the time of consultation when Rajkumar, unexpectedly, attacked the neurosurgeon with a knife.
A disturbing incident unfolded at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital when a senior doctor became the victim of an alleged attack by one of his patients during a consultation in his chamber. The patient was a 21-year-old individual who had been receiving treatment for depression since 2021.
He was under the care of the chairman of the Department of Neurology, Dr Satnam Singh Chabbra, who he attacked with a small knife during the session. Fortunately, the situation was managed by the quick response of the hospital security and one of the doctor's attendants, preventing any harm to the doctor.
The hospital security and a doctor's attendant intervened, preventing any severe injury to the neurosurgeon. They were able to overpower the patient and subsequently handed him over to the police. Following the incident, a police officer informed that the surgeon suffered a minor cut on his thumb during the attack.
As a response, the patient responsible for the attack is facing action under the Prevention of Violence against Doctors, Medical Professionals, and Medical Institution Bill, 2018. This bill seeks to protect healthcare professionals from violence and ensure their safety in the workplace.
Hospital sources revealed that Dr Chabbra has been a dedicated member of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital (SGRH) for around three decades. In the aftermath of the incident, he has appealed to patients to consider that doctors are also human beings, and despite their best efforts, they can face challenging situations while serving people's health needs.
