BMW hit-and-run in Mumbai that kills woman and leaves husband critical

A speeding BMW hit a couple on a two-wheeler in Mumbai's Worli, killing the woman and injuring her husband. The car owner, a local Shiv Sena leader, and his son were detained. Politicians have called for stricter traffic safety measures.
In what could be termed as a rather unfortunate accident, a speeding BMW car knocked down a couple on a two-wheeler in Worli, Mumbai early Sunday morning and the mishap claimed the life of a 45-year-old women while the husband was critically injured. The accident occurred around 5:30 AM near Atria Mall while the couple was on their way back home from Sassoon dock to buy fish.
In this case, as described by Mumbai Police and affirmed by the cab driver, the luxury car rear-ended the couple’s car, causing the vehicle to flip over. The impact caused both the riders to be thrown off balance and fallen on the car’s bonnet. While the husband, Pradeep Nakhava, was able to leave the vehicle before it started moving, his wife Kaveri Nakhava was dragged about 100 meters behind the vehicle, thus suffering from critical injuries.
The victims were a young couple from the Koliwada area of Worli and they were admitted to the Nair hospital. Unfortunately, Kaveri could not survive the injuries she had sustained.
The police have impounded the BMW and arrested Rajesh Shah, the owner of the car, who is also an accused in the case and a Shiv Sena (Shinde) leader of Palghar. Police has also arrested the driver and Mihir Shah, the son of Shah, and they believe that the two were in the car during the time of the accident. A formal case is expected to be registered soon These are some of the key areas of conflict that the union is likely to pursue.
That case has attracted the attention of political leaders. Aditya Thackeray, the president of Shiv Sena’s UBT, went to the Worli police station and met the husband of the victim. Looking at the crowded railway system, Thackeray highlighted the importance of bringing order and discipline back to the city of Mumbai.
The incident was met by reaction from the head of the Maharashtra government’s executive wing, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who assured no interference in the case and vowed to act strictly within the law. He said, “Even if he is a Shiv Sena worker, law will follow its due process. The government under which I am working believes in providing same justice for all.
This hit-and-run case is based on the previous case happened in Pune where a minor overpowered the car and caused death of a young couple. As the fear of traffic accidents continues to prevail in Mumbai, authorities are forced to respond by providing quick justice and more ways of preventing such horrible incidents in the future.
