A wedding in Surat took an unexpected turn when the ceremony was halted due to a dispute over food shortage, forcing the couple to complete their marriage at a police station.

The incident occurred at Lakshmi Hall, where Rahul Pramod Mahto and Anjali Kumari, both originally from Bihar, were set to marry. Most rituals had been completed when the groom’s family objected, claiming there was insufficient food for the guests. This led to a heated argument between both families, ultimately resulting in the groom’s relatives refusing to continue with the wedding.

Upset by the sudden disruption, the bride’s family sought police intervention. Upon investigation, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Alok Kumar found that the groom himself was willing to go ahead with the wedding despite his family's objections. However, the bride’s family feared another conflict if they returned to the original venue.

To resolve the matter, the police arranged for the couple to complete their remaining rituals, including the exchange of garlands, inside the police station. The officers decided to intervene in a "positive manner" to ensure the bride’s well-being and prevent any further complications.
