Yogesh Mehta, a 53-year-old businessman, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with the murders of his wife and 15 years old daughter. Dokmardi in Silvassa, Dadra, and Nagar Haveli is the location of the horrific crime. Mehta, who owned a yarn business, allegedly confessed to the crime to police following an argument with his wife, Reshma.

The police discovered that Mehta had severely attacked his daughter during the argument and then cut her corpse into ten pieces with a knife and a hammer. He dumped the remains into a nearby canal. Authorities have undertaken a search operation, recovering the victim's head and limbs, and are continuing their hunt for the rest of the corpse.

On Monday night, neighbours complained of a noxious odour coming from Mehta's house, leading to the tragic discovery. The police found Reshma's body inside a sack after conducting an inquiry. They also discovered Mehta's mentally disabled eldest daughter was safe and sound inside the home.

Section 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) of the Indian Penal Code were subsequently used against Mehta. While being questioned, he admitted to the acts and blamed them on disagreements he had with his wife over the collection of rent for their 15-room chawl. Mehta said that he had attacked his wife during the fight on Saturday night, and that when his younger daughter tried to intercede, she was also assaulted.

Several body parts were found when police searched the waterway for four km from Waghchhipa to Chibadkoch. The Gujarati district of Valsad borders the canal, which is used for irrigation. The police found the murder weapon, a hammer, and suspect that Mehta's obsession with true crime shows inspired his heinous acts.

Authorities have told the public that they will conduct a full investigation and bring all responsible parties to justice so that the mourning family and the community can finally rest in peace.
