On Day 4 of the World Test Championship final between India and Australia, Australia declared their second innings at 270 for 8, setting India a record target of 444 to win. India started rightly but lost Shubman Gill to a controversial catch off Cameron Green.

 

Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara added 51 runs before Pat Cummins dismissed Pujara.

 

Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane then put on a 50-run partnership to keep India in the hunt, but Kohli was dismissed for 44. Rahane remained unbeaten on 27 at the stumps, with India needing 280 runs to win on the final day.

India's openers, Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma, started cautiously but soon found their rhythm. They put on 36 runs for the first wicket before Gill was controversially given out caught behind off Cameron Green. India reviewed the decision, but the third umpire upheld it.

 

Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara then added 51 runs for the second wicket. Pujara was looking solid, but Pat Cummins eventually dismissed him for 22.

 

Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane then came together and put on a 50-run partnership to keep India in the hunt. Kohli was looking in good touch, but he was dismissed for 44 by Nathan Lyon. Rahane remained unbeaten on 27 at the stumps, with India needing 280 runs to win on the final day.

The match is evenly poised going into the final day, with India needing a record run chase to win. Australia will be confident of defending their total, but India has the batting firepower to do it. The final day is set to be a thrilling one.
