Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his entire delegation have been compelled to prolong their stay in New Delhi for the G20 summit by an additional day due to an aircraft malfunction, confirmed Canadian officials.

Trudeau had arrived in India for the gathering of leaders from 20 major economies on Friday. Originally scheduled to return home on Sunday after paying tribute to Indian independence leader Mahatma Gandhi, his plans were disrupted by a mechanical fault, forcing him to stay overnight in India.

The Canadian High Commission in New Delhi referred to a statement from Trudeau’s office, revealing that the Canadian air force, which operates the plane, had reported "technical difficulties" that could not be resolved immediately. As a result, the delegation will remain in India until alternative travel arrangements are made.

Canada's CTV identified the troubled aircraft as an Airbus and mentioned that it was unclear when it would be ready to return, noting that it had experienced issues previously.

Trudeau's presence at the G20 summit had a lower profile compared to some of his G7 counterparts and was marked by underlying tensions between his government and host India. These tensions are rooted in allegations that Ottawa has disregarded the activities of radical Sikh nationalists seeking a separate Sikh homeland in northernIndia.

Trudeau's aircraft malfunction incident is not an isolated case. In recent months, other world figures, including Germany's foreign minister and New Zealand's prime minister, have faced aircraft problems during their official travels.
