Three people from the Assistant Drugs Controller (India) office in Panvel, Maharashtra, were detained by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday, according to officials. The detentions were a result of the CBI's continuing investigation into bribery charges.

As a result of growing accusations of "rampant corruption" at the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) subsidiary known as the Assistant Drugs Controller's Panvel office, sources close to the matter told India Today TV that the CBI opened an investigation.

According to officials, on April 2, the vigilance department and the central probe agency carried out a joint surprise check. Investigations into this matter revealed that certain individuals in the public sphere were bribing Customs House Agents (CHAs) on behalf of corrupt politicians. Assisting clients in obtaining no-objections certificates (NOCs) was the aim.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) released an official statement stating that during the surprise inspection, around Rs 1.52 lakh was taken out of the drawers of both public and private individuals. The Central Bureau of Investigation was unable to obtain any meaningful response from the relevant public personnel or private individuals occupying the office.

They stated that the mysterious payments had been obtained, directly or through intermediaries, from CHAs or their agents in return for NOCs. These seem to have been accepted as bribes by the public authorities involved in the scheme.

After the three cops were apprehended and placed in custody, searches of their homes revealed goods valued at over 46.70 lakh rupees in cash and over 27.80 lakh rupees in diamonds.

Relevant documents associated with several real estate assets were discovered during the searches, in addition to other incriminating evidence.

Three government employees were taken into custody: a lower-level CDSCO employee, a drug inspector, and an assistant drug controller.

Drug Inspector Devendra Nath, Arvind R. Hiwale, an Assistant Drugs Controller, and junior staff member Nageshwar N. Sabbani have been taken into custody by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). All of them were given jobs at the CDSCO office in Panvel, which reports to the Assistant Drugs Controller (India). Three private individuals were booked, according to the CBI statement, one of them was employed under contract.

The three government employees who are now in police custody will stay there until April 8.
