The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken action in response to allegations of cheating in the Nursing Officer Recruitment Common Eligibility Test (NORCET), which was held on June 3. The exam, which aimed to fill Nursing Officer positions, was organized by the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS).
The CBI's move came after several photos and screenshots of the question paper began circulating on social media platforms, despite strict rules prohibiting cameras and cell phones inside the exam centers.
Concerns were raised over the integrity of the examination process, prompting the filing of a formal complaint.
The NORCET-4 exam was conducted nationwide, covering all AIIMS institutions, including AIIMS New Delhi, as well as four Central Government Hospitals in Delhi and NITRD.
The complaint lodged with the CBI stated that on the evening of June 5, 2023, tweets containing evidence of the leaked question paper surfaced. The test had taken place on June 3, 2023, during the morning shift.
Upon investigating the screenshots that had gone viral on social media, it was discovered that they originated from the candidate console belonging to an individual named Ritu. This candidate had previously submitted an online application for the NORCET-4 Recruitment Examination.
In light of this evidence, a case has been registered against the candidate and the exam center.
The registered case falls under section 420 (Cheating) of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act, reflecting the severity of the allegations. The CBI will now commence a thorough investigation into the matter to determine the extent of the cheating and identify any additional individuals involved.
This incident raises concerns about the security and fairness of the examination handle for recruitment within the healthcare sector. Authorities are expected to take strict action against those found guilty, ensuring that such incidents are not repeated in future examinations.
