On Friday, officials reported that The CBI conducted investigations at seven sites in Mumbai linked to a suspected bank scam worth ₹538 crore. The investigation encompassed the locations associated with Jet Airways and its creator, Naresh Goyal, along with the domiciles and workplaces of Goyal’s spouse, Anita, and former board member of the airline, Gaurang Ananda Shetty. The CBI initiated the investigation after Canara Bank filed a complaint regarding the alleged fraud, and the agency has registered a new case to pursue the matter.
The allegations center on the purported diversion of funds, along with other irregularities. Interestingly, the search took place at a time when Jet Airways was in the process of revival, following the successful bid of Jalan Kalrock Consortium for the airline During the NCLT’s insolvency resolution process, according to the context.
Overall, the CBI’s searches indicate that the Indian authorities are taking a tough stance on alleged financial crimes, particularly in the banking sector. The investigation serves as a reminder that companies and their executives are not immune to legal action, even when they are undergoing insolvency proceedings.
