According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the daily Covid-19 cases in the country have been on the rise since early March. Cases crossed 6000 for the first time in 200 days.

The surge has been attributed to a combination of factors, including the spread of new variants of the virus, large public gatherings, and a general laxity in following Covid-19 safety protocols.

In response to the rising cases, the Centre has asked all states to increase their testing capacity. The government has suggested that states adopt a "test, track, and treat" strategy, where they identify and isolate infected individuals, trace their contacts, and provide timely medical care to those in need.

The Centre has also urged states to focus on testing in areas where there is a high concentration of cases. It includes areas with a large number of people in confined spaces, such as workplaces, schools, and public transportation systems.

Additionally, the government has asked states to use Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs) in areas with a high prevalence of cases. RATs are cheaper and quicker than RT-PCR tests and can help in identifying infected individuals in a short amount of time.

The government has also emphasized the need for strict adherence to Covid-19 safety protocols. It includes wearing masks, maintaining social distancing, and avoiding large public gatherings. The Centre has urged people to get vaccinated as soon as they are eligible, as vaccination is one of the most effective ways to prevent severe Covid-19 infections.

In conclusion, the recent surge in Covid-19 cases in India is a cause for concern. However, with timely and effective measures, it is possible to contain the spread of the virus. Increased testing, along with strict adherence to Covid-19 safety protocols and vaccination, can go a long way in preventing a second wave of the pandemic. It is now up to the states to ramp up their testing capacity and Take proactive measures to prevent the spread of the virus.
