Stone Pelters Cause Train Services Suspension in Howrah-Bardhaman Main Line

On April 3, stone pelting incidents occurred near Rishra Railway Station in the district Hooghly of West Bengal, leading to the suspension of all local and mail express Train services on the Howrah-Bardhaman Main Line for over three hours. The rioters attacked four trains and targeted Gate number four of the Railway Station. The situation was brought under control by the deployment of Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel and the West Bengal Police, who were also attacked by the rioters. Tear gas had to be used to disperse the mob, and one police vehicle parked near the railway crossing was damaged.

The violence occurred after a fresh bout of violence erupted in Rishra on April 2, three days after Islamists unleashed mayhem during the Ram Navami procession in the Shibpur area of Howrah in West Bengal.

The BJP was taking out a ‘Shobha Yatra’ in the area, and miscreants pelted stones at the procession, leaving several people, including one of BJP’s local legislators gravely injured. This led to prohibitory orders being imposed, and the internet being suspended. Earlier on March 30, stones were pelted on a Ram Navami procession in the Shibpur area of Howrah, leading to violence and arson. Several disturbing videos of the incident went viral on social media, and a large contingent of police was deployed to maintain the law and order situation in the area.

Mamata Banerjee urges Hindus not to venture into "Muslim areas" for processions in West Bengal
