China called on India and Pakistan to exercise restraint following India's strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and PoK under Operation Sindoor. While expressing regret over the military action, China reaffirmed its opposition to terrorism and urged both nations to avoid further escalation for the sake of regional peace.

China on Wednesday urged both India and Pakistan to remain calm and avoid actions that could escalate tensions, following India’s military strikes under Operation Sindoor targeting terror camps across the border. Beijing expressed “regret” over the strikes while simultaneously reiterating its opposition to terrorism.

The statement from China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs came shortly after Indian armed forces launched coordinated precision strikes on nine terrorist infrastructure sites across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. These strikes were in direct response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives, including one foreign national.

“China expresses regret over India’s military actions this morning and is concerned about the current developments,” said the ministry. “We oppose all forms of terrorism. However, we urge both sides to act with restraint and work in the interest of regional peace and stability.”

India has maintained that the strikes were carefully calibrated, targeting only known terror facilities affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, without touching Pakistani civilian or military infrastructure. The operation, monitored throughout the night by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, involved all three branches of the armed forces.

In the wake of the strikes, Pakistani forces resorted to shelling in several sectors along the Line of Control, prompting fears of a broader military confrontation. The international community, including the United Nations, has appealed for de-escalation.

China’s balanced stance reflects its close ties with Pakistan and its strategic interest in maintaining regional stability, especially amid ongoing economic initiatives like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). While supportive of anti-terror principles, Beijing has stopped short of endorsing India’s military response.
