Christian Bale Confesses Matt Damon Is The Reason Behind His Successful Career

Christian Bale thanked old friend Matt Damon for saving his career by refusing a $130M biopic. 

While talking about his friend Matt Damon in an interview, Christian Bale said “I’m very grateful” to Damon for saving his career. The Batman star had rejected a $130 million movie that eventually went to Bale and changed his life. In fact, this started his career, he added. The movie that Bale was referring to is the sports biopic The Fighter, directed by David O. Russell, which made around $130 million across the globe. Christian Bale got the role of Dick “Dicky” Eklund, which Matt Damon had rejected. The Academy Award winner also won his first Oscar for this movie. 

He went on to say that if not for Damon, he wouldn’t have a career in the first place. The Vice actor specially mentioned that some of the lucrative roles that he received were initially rejected by Damon. Despite this, both the actors have been fast friends. They also worked together in Ford vs. Ferrari.

In the interview, Bale said, “I know you think I’m making this up, I am very grateful to Matt because I wouldn’t have a career if it wasn’t for roles he passed on. There were many roles where I was told, ‘Oh, well, Matt doesn’t wanna do it.’ So they went, ‘Ugh, all right, what about Bale?”

The feeling of friendship is mutual for both. Damon, while speaking about Bale and his movie characters, said, “These guys both had this same passion. They were different people but they had this same passion to build this thing and they had to do it together, and when you’re making something that’s bigger than yourself, there’s no pretending to the other person that it doesn’t matter.” “ You both know very deeply how much it matters because it matters that much to you and you know it matters that much to him”, he added.

Even though both the actors are each other competitors, it feels good to see both of them sharing such an adorable bond.
