CISF reported 15 suicides in 2024, the lowest in four years, attributing the decline to mental health programs and new HR policies focused on reducing stress and improving personnel welfare.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) reported a decline in suicides among its personnel, with 15 cases recorded in 2024 – the lowest since 2020. The force attributes this improvement to various mental health initiatives, including a dedicated helpline, counselling services, and stress management programs.

Since its launch in 2021, the CISF’s mental health helpline has supported approximately 4,200 personnel, while round-the-clock counselling services, in collaboration with Aditya Birla Education Trust, have provided additional assistance.

A recent CISF study revealed that two-thirds of personnel grievances stemmed from posting-related issues affecting family life. In response, a new HR policy introduced in December 2024 offers choice-based postings to improve work-life balance, particularly for non-gazetted officers, married couples, and personnel nearing retirement.

Between 2020 and 2024, at least 730 personnel from Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) died by suicide. Stress factors such as long working hours and limited leave were identified as major contributors.

The CISF, which secures key installations including Parliament, airports, metro stations, and sensitive sites, continues to expand mental health resources to safeguard the well-being of its 200,000-strong workforce.
