CJI Chandrachud Urges for Uninterrupted Technology Deployment in Courts

CJI Chandrachud:-

In a recent statement, the Chief Justice of India, D Y Chandrachud, expressed concern over the discontinuation of virtual court hearings by some high courts, which had been introduced during the pandemic. The Justice stressed that the personal preferences of the chief justices of the high courts should not be the basis for providing access to courts and streamlining the justice system through the use of technology. Instead, he urged all chief justices to embrace technology and ensure its deployment at every level to reach lawyers and litigants in the taluka level. CJI Chandrachud CJI Chandrachud Leading the mission for the extensive use of technology in the justice delivery system, Justice Chandrachud noted the allocation of Rs 7,000 crore in this year's budget to improve information and technology deployment in the judiciary. He emphasized that technology is meant to be inclusive and not exclusive for a few. To support this initiative, e-Seva Kendras are being opened at the taluka level, where staff will train advocates on how to file soft copies of petitions and conduct virtual hearings before the court. The CJI-led bench has also asked the Bar Council of India chairman to collate data about the IT needs of various bar associations of the HC and submit a report to the SC in three weeks.
