Aryan Mishra, a Class 12 student, was killed on August 23, 2024, in Haryana’s Faridabad by a group of five men. The accused have claimed that they thought Aryan and his friends were cattle lifters and chased them for 30 kilometers before firing at them near the Gadhpuri toll on the Delhi-Agra National Highway. Aryan was shot in the neck and chest and he died instantly.

The suspects include Saurabh, Anil Kaushik, Varun, Krishna, and Adesh were arrested on August 28. In their defense during police interrogation, they said they thought Aryan and his friends were involved in cattle theft. The police are still trying to determine the truthfulness of their allegations as well as other possible reasons.

While the police statement did not name the accused as cow vigilantes, NDTV said that the mother of Anil Kaushik said her son was part of the car chase because he thought there were cow smugglers in the car. At Anil’s home, NDTV found two vehicles that belonged to cow protection, which strengthened the belief that the accused were cow vigilantes.
