Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has voiced strong criticism against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for excluding President Droupadi Murmu from the inauguration of India's new Parliament building.
Kharge, speaking at a rally in poll-bound Rajasthan, labeled this decision as an "insult to the president" and raised questions about the BJP's motives.
"This is an insult to the president. Congress has people from all communities. BJP doesn't even let anyone come near," said Kharge while addressing a rally in poll-bound Rajasthan.
Kharge also pointed out that the BJP had extended invitations to cinema actors for the inauguration event while deliberately omitting the highest constitutional authority in the country, President Murmu.
He asserted that the Congress embraces diversity, while the BJP seemingly keeps certain individuals at arm's length.
He also brought up a past incident where the BJP allegedly did not invite the then-President Ramnath Kovind to the foundation laying ceremony of the new Parliament building.
He went on to claim that this omission was due to Kovind's caste, describing it as "untouchable" discrimination.
Kharge also raised concerns about the BJP's intentions regarding the women's reservation bill. He suggested that the BJP's sudden interest in the bill, just ahead of elections, might be a strategic move as opposition parties have formed the INDIA bloc.
