PM Modi's Response on CAG Reports

The Congress party has called upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the recent Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports highlighting irregularities in the database of a centrally sponsored health scheme and the escalated cost of the Dwarka Expressway.

Jairam Ramesh, Congress general secretary (communications), challenged the Prime Minister to address the allegations of corruption and incompetence within his government, as exposed by the CAG report.

Ramesh highlighted key findings from the CAG report, including a 14-fold increase in the project cost of the Dwarka Expressway, escalating from ₹18 crore/km to ₹250 crore/km. The CAG's performance audit also revealed discrepancies in the Ayushman Bharat - Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) health scheme, resulting in the expenditure of crores of rupees on ineligible beneficiaries due to insufficient validation controls. The report pointed out issues like invalid names, unrealistic dates of birth, duplicate health IDs, and unrealistic family sizes.

Ramesh pointed out that similar questions were raised by the CAG about irregularities in the Ayodhya Development Project and the diversion of old age pension funds under the National Social Assistance Programme for promoting government schemes.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge accused the Modi government of corruption in infrastructure projects, referencing the CAG report on 'Bharatmala Pariyojana' highway projects. Kharge urged Prime Minister Modi to reflect on the corruption allegations instead of accusing political opponents.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) also criticized the Modi government, claiming that it has set records for corruption. He accused the government of constructing the Dwarka Expressway at a much higher cost than planned, based on the CAG report.

AAP national spokesperson Sanjay Singh echoed the similar sentiment, asserting that Modi's government is the "most corrupt" since independence.

He highlighted discrepancies in the 'Bharatmala Pariyojana' project, which aimed to construct roads at a certain cost per kilometer but reportedly escalated in expenses under the current government.

With allegations of corruption and discrepancies being raised by multiple political parties, pressure is mounting on Prime Minister Modi to address these concerns and provide a response to the CAG reports.
