The Congress party has made a
fervent appeal for an inquiry by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to
investigate claims made by SS Haokip, Chief of the United Kukki Liberation
Front (UKLF), regarding the purported assistance provided by militant
organisations to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in securing election
victories in Manipur and other northeastern states.
In a press conference, Congress spokesperson Dr. Ajoy Kumar
shed light on the contents of a letter penned by Haokip to Union Home Minister
Amit Shah, which detailed an alleged agreement involving Assam Chief Minister
Himanta Biswa
Sarma, senior BJP leader Ram Madhav, and the UKLF. According to the letter, the UKLF received a payment of Rs 15 crores from the Union Home Minister subsequent to the BJP’s triumphs in the elections. Dr. Kumar demanded the immediate booking of Sarma and Madhav under the stringent National Security Act (NSA) for their alleged involvement in anti-national activities.
Dr. Kumar expressed deep concern
over the situation unfolding in Manipur and criticized the silence of Prime
Minister Narendra Modi regarding the issue. He underscored the blockage of
national highways and the scarcity of essential commodities, which has created
a looming threat of famine.
Additionally, he highlighted the deteriorating security conditions in Manipur, exemplified by the recent incident where the residence of a state minister was set ablaze, instilling a sense of fear and vulnerability among the populace. As a consequence, approximately 50,000 individuals have been displaced from their homes in the state.
The Congress party's demand for
an NIA investigation reflects their unwavering determination to unearth the
truth behind these allegations and ensure that those responsible are held
accountable. The gravity of the accusations, which involve the participation of
militant groups in the electoral process and the alleged financial
transactions, raises significant concerns about the integrity of the democratic
system and national security.
The party’s call for action against Sarma and Madhav under
the NSA underscores their firm stance on safeguarding the nation’s security and
upholding its integrity. As the situation in Manipur continues to escalate, the
government’s response and their approach to addressing the concerns raised by
the Congress party remain uncertain.
