Conman Arrested in Mohali for Rental Accommodation Scam with Over 8,100 Complaints

The Mohali district police have arrested a fraudster who was swindling people by promising to help them find rental accommodations. After conducting an investigation, the police discovered a staggering total of 8,138 complaints filed against the suspect across Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh.


The accused, Identified as Paramjeet Singh, a resident of Kharar’s Amayra Green, was apprehended by the Balongi police during their probe into a cheating case registered on July 13th.


Conman Arrested
The Mohali district police have arrested a fraudster who was swindling people by promising to help them find rental accommodations.

Manpreet Singh, the Balongi police received a complaint from an individual searching for a room to rent. The complainant alleged that they had come across an advertisement on OLX and had contacted the accused, whom they had paid Rs 15,000 in advance.



The complainant further claimed that once the money was handed over, the accused promptly switched off his mobile phone.

Upon receiving the complaint, an FIR was lodged, and an investigation was launched. Paramjeet Singh was arrested, and upon further verification, the police team discovered that he had been defrauding people for several years.

The accused, Identified as Paramjeet Singh, a resident of Kharar’s Amayra Green, was apprehended by the Balongi police during their probe into a cheating case registered on July 13th.

SP Singh revealed that a total of 10 bank accounts belonging to the accused showed transactions amounting to Rs 1.44 crore. Additionally, three bank accounts were frozen based on recommendations from cyber cells in other states.


“After analyzing the data, we found that a total of 8,111 complaints had been lodged against the accused on 1,930 platforms established for reporting financial fraud. Among these complaints, 22 were from Kharar, one from Himachal Pradesh (HP), three from Haryana, and one from Uttar Pradesh (UP),” stated SP Singh.


The case was investigated by a team led by Kharar (I) DySP Rupinder Kaur Sohi and Balongi Station House Officer (SHO) Inspector P. S. Grewal.

Regarding the suspect’s background, SP Singh disclosed that Paramjeet Singh is married but was living alone in his flat and holds a graduate degree.
