The "surveys" conducted by the Income Tax department of India on the BBC's premises in New Delhi and Mumbai went rogue on world media. The 3-days investigation garnered lots of criticism and created chaos within the country, leaving the pursuit open to debate. The UK government, however, was silent on the matter. Neither Rishi Sunak nor its members voiced their concern since the surveys took place until the Labour party raised questions against the government's stance. Finally, David Rutley, MP for Macclesfield and holding the office of "Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Americas and Caribbean," came up with remarks defending the news hub.

He said, “We stand up for the BBC. We fund the BBC. We think the BBC World Service is vital. We want the BBC to have that editorial freedom. It criticizes us, it criticizes the Labour party, and it has that freedom that we believe is so important.”He also stressed the freedom of the press and how it is a pedestal for democracy. He continued, “That freedom is key, and we want to be able to communicate its importance to our friends across the world, including the Government in India.” The 61-year-old MP from the Conservative party assured everyone that BBC would continue to work as before, spreading an "independent voice" for people all around the globe.UK's defense of the Income Tax surveys didn't come as a surprise. But what would startle people worldwide is the delay in the publishing of the concern. If the defense came out as a last-minute measure to calm the Labour party, we would possibly never know.
