Bittu Bajrangi, a self-proclaimed cow vigilante known for his divisive speeches, participated in the Vishva Hindu Parishad's annual Braj Mandal Yatra in Nuh, Haryana. In an interview, he shared his account of the violence that erupted, claiming six lives.
Bajrangi claims that the yatra was going smoothly until some troublemakers showed up, set fire to some cars, and started shooting in the area of a mosque. He said that they had to turn around to safeguard the women and children, as well as to prevent a replay of the May 4 incident in Manipur, in which women were stripped and paraded around the streets.
In response to viral videos showing yatris armed, Bajrangi acknowledged that certain yatris had legally obtained guns for ritual purposes only. He also commented on a video showing him dressed in saffron and set to ominous music, indicating he had retaliated against his assailants.
Calling for "bulldozer action" like in Yogi Adityanath's government, Bajrangi advocated for a strong response against the miscreants.
Stone-throwing and car-burning erupted when a mob in Nuh attempted to stop a VHP parade. Gurugram was not spared the violence; a Muslim cleric was murdered and stores were looted.
The Haryana government announced 116 arrests and 90 detentions in relation to the communal riots, which resulted in six deaths.
Authorities are striving to bring stability and bringing those guilty for the violence in Nuh and Gurugram to account, but the situation there remains volatile.
