The population of the national capital is struggling to access water as the region is hit by a drought combined with heat. The AAP accused the BJP workers of vandalizing the water pipelines and sought police security, to which the BJP holds Kejriwal and the AAP government responsible for the water shortage.

Refuting the AAP’s allegations, Water Minister Atishi in a letter to the Delhi Police Commissioner stated that DJB’s patrolling teams have discovered broken pipelines at several places. Atishi further urged the police commissioner to provide personnel to guard the major pipelines in the city for the next 15 days to avoid such incidences.

On the other hand, the residents of Najafgarh protested against the AAP government for water crisis, where BJP MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat and party workers also joined in the protest. Sehrawat accused the AAP government of shifting the blame to other states when the issue is within their own department.

AAP MLAs also got in touch with Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil in this regard asking him to intervene through inter-state relations to get the crisis solved. But, they could not secure an appointment with the minister.

Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva targeted Kejriwal and the AAP government over the water scarcity issue blaming it on the theft and wastage. BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj said that she has to remind the DJB authorities from time to time to ensure that water tankers are provided to the people in her Constituency.

The water production in Delhi has tapered off from the usual 1,002 million gallons per day (MGD) and is currently at 932 MGD due to raw water shortage, states Atishi. Presently, it enjoys a deficit of 70 MGD.
