On March 12, 2022, On March 12, 2022, Cristiano Ronaldo set
the all-time record for most goals in the history of men's football. The
Portuguese forward has enshrined his name in the books of history for his
goal-scoring achievements, having broken records in both Real Madrid and
Portugal national team's histories.
The Top 10 List of Goal-Scoring Records
Now that the Sporting News has requested FIFA to release the
list of top scorers, Ronaldo’s goal-scoring records has become the talk of the
town. Though FIFA has responded that it does not keep an official list of the
statistics of the goals scored by individual players, outlets like Goal.com
have released the top 10 "FIFA-recognized goals" totals.
The list shows that Cristiano Ronaldo is the top scorer with
830 goals, succeeded by Josef Bican at 805. Lionel Messi missed the second
position by just 5 goals, standing at 800. Pele is at the fifth position with
757 goals. This statistics indicate the current position as of March 23, 2023
and include only official matches, not friendlies and exhibition.
Debate Surrounding The List
The authencity of this list has not been verified. It is
surrounded with controversy since the late Brazilian icon Pele had claimed to
have scored over 1,000 career goals, including youth, friendly, and non-official
games. While the Guinness Book of World Records hold Pele as the record setter
with 1,279 goals, FIFA and South American body CONMEBOL have registered
Pele with 1,281 goals in 1,363 games. There is also a dispute regarding
Bican's actual numbers due to Czech FA claim of Bican having scored
82 when the final tallies were recorded.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s fans are hoping that their favorite
player will score many more goals at Al Nassr to add on to his grand total as
well as win the Golden Boot there.
