Delhi's Lieutenant Governor has approved relaxations in age and educational criteria for 1984 anti-Sikh riots victims seeking government jobs. This follows multiple requests from victim groups, ensuring support for employment under a rehabilitation package sanctioned in 2006. The relaxation applies to applicants for multi-tasking staff positions.
Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, VK Saxena, has approved significant relaxations in educational and age criteria for the victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots who applied for government jobs. These individuals, who have been seeking employment as multi-tasking staff in various Delhi government departments, will now be granted full relaxation in the required educational qualifications, and the upper age limit has been extended to 55 years.
This decision comes after several representations by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee and other victim groups, who met the Lieutenant Governor to address these concerns. The relaxation is intended to provide support to those affected by the 1984 riots, ensuring they can access employment opportunities despite earlier barriers like age and educational qualifications.
In 2006, the Union Home Ministry sanctioned a rehabilitation package for the victims, which included provisions for jobs. Following this, the Delhi government's revenue department received 72 applications from eligible individuals. In a special drive, 22 applicants were appointed after their age limits were relaxed by the then LG.

In October 2024, Saxena granted further relaxation for 50 applicants who had missed out due to educational qualifications. Additionally, the Delhi government is processing applications from the children of the victims who surpassed the employment age limit. The government had also held special camps to invite applications for employment from the families of the victims, receiving 199 applications, with 89 of them qualifying despite being over the age limit or missing educational qualifications.
