Eight Killed, 33 Injured in Chittoor Bus Accident Involving Two Trucks

A bus accident in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh, involving two trucks claimed the lives of eight pilgrims and left 33 others injured. The bus, carrying pilgrims from Tirupati to Bengaluru, was hit by a truck, followed by a second collision. Rescue efforts are underway, with critically injured passengers transferred to hospitals in Bengaluru and Vellore. The state government announced compensation for the victims' families.
At least eight people lost their lives, and 33 others were injured in a tragic bus accident on Friday afternoon in Andhra Pradesh’s Chittoor district. The accident occurred at Moghili Ghat on the Chittoor-Bengaluru national expressway (NE-7) when a bus, carrying pilgrims from Bengaluru, collided with a speeding truck loaded with iron rods, only to be hit by another truck from behind.
The incident happened around 4 PM as the bus was negotiating a turn on the ghat road. The bus, which belonged to the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSTRC), was en route from Tirupati to Bengaluru when the collision occurred. Police reported that the bus was badly damaged, and eight passengers died on the spot. A total of 33 people sustained injuries, some critically.
Passersby quickly alerted the authorities, and rescue teams from Palamaner, Bangarupalem, and Chittoor were dispatched to the site. Four ambulances arrived promptly to transport the injured to nearby hospitals, with critically injured individuals sent to Bengaluru and Vellore for further treatment.

Chittoor district collector Sumit Kumar and superintendent of police Manikantha Chandolu visited the injured at the hospital, and the state government announced an ex-gratia payment of ₹5 lakh to the families of the deceased on the orders of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. The chief minister expressed his shock and conveyed condolences to the bereaved families, directing district authorities to ensure the injured receive the best medical care.
