Elon Musk has backed MP Priyanka Chaturvedi's criticism of UK PM Keir Starmer's use of the term "Asian grooming gangs" to describe a child sexual abuse scandal involving mostly Pakistani men. Chaturvedi emphasized the need for precise language, prompting widespread debate.
Billionaire Elon Musk has backed Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi after she criticized UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s comments about the "Asian grooming gangs" involved in a child sexual abuse scandal in northern England. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Chaturvedi asserted that these perpetrators should be specifically referred to as "Pakistani grooming gangs" rather than the ambiguous term "Asian." Musk responded with a simple "True."
The controversy began when Starmer referred to the scandal, which involved men predominantly of Pakistani descent, as the work of “Asian grooming gangs.” This broad label sparked backlash, with critics arguing it unfairly stigmatized the larger Asian community. Chaturvedi joined those speaking out, emphasizing that the Pakistani heritage of the perpetrators must be acknowledged to prevent generalizations that could harm innocent communities.
Chaturvedi’s post stated: "Repeat after me, they aren’t ASIAN Grooming Gangs but PAKISTANI grooming gangs." She further questioned why the whole Asian community should bear the blame for the actions of a few. Musk’s endorsement of Chaturvedi’s viewpoint has drawn attention to the ongoing debate about the need for accurate terminology in discussing such sensitive issues.

The controversy has reignited discussions about the need for clarity in identifying the ethnic backgrounds of perpetrators in such cases. UK opposition groups have long called for an inquiry into these abuse cases, with some figures advocating for a more direct acknowledgment of the perpetrators' ethnicity.
