The sudden and mysterious death of former Karnataka Director General of Police (DGP) Om Prakash has shocked Bengaluru. The retired senior IPS officer, belonging to the 1981 batch, was discovered in a pool of blood at his residence in the upscale HSR Layout area. Authorities confirmed the presence of deep injuries, likely caused by a sharp weapon, leading to significant blood loss and death.

Additional Commissioner of Police (East) Vikas Kumar stated that investigations are underway and no arrests have been made yet. Preliminary inquiries suggest internal conflict might have played a role, and police are questioning Prakash’s wife and daughter for further details. A case will be registered soon, following which a detailed probe will proceed.

Originally from Bihar’s Champaran district, Om Prakash had a distinguished service record. After obtaining a master’s degree in Geology, he began his career as an additional superintendent of police in Harapanahalli. He later served in various key positions, including ASP in Ballari, SP in Shivamogga, Uttara Kannada, and Chikkamagaluru, and held senior roles in departments like CID, Fire and Emergency Services, and the Lokayukta.

Prakash was appointed as Karnataka’s DGP on March 1, 2015, and retired two years later. Reports suggest that the retired officer had recently confided in some associates about threats to his life. Police are now looking into the possibility of family involvement, with property disputes emerging as a potential motive.
